This new society was formed in January 2011, with the principal aim of discovering and recording information about the village’s rich history.
New members will be warmly welcomed! we have begun to assemble photographs and documents for displays, and would be interested in receiving any archive material you might be prepared to loan.
Current research includes:
- analysis of Censuses
- oral history recording
- the history of houses
- maps and land-use
- the history of prominent village buildings – the forge, The Swan Inn, the almshouses, the school, Wentworth House(the workhouse/vicarage) etc
Next meeting: Tuesday February 28th at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. David Clark will speak on the subject of Ashow and the Stoneleigh Estate.
Please note that meetings in 2012 will be on the last Tuesday in the month. The AGM will be on March 27th.
