Male Voice Choir

Sometime in the mid-1980s the then Rector of Stoneleigh asked his Sunday School teacher whether she could persuade a few men to get together and sing a couple of carols, as a group, at the Christmas carol service. She did, and Stoneleigh Male Voice Choir was born.

The choir now delivers concerts to a wide variety of audience, and usually in support of a charity. Major annual events are “Summer Serenade”, an open air ‘champagne concert’ in a large Stoneleigh garden and a winter ‘musical show’ in Stoneleigh Village Hall. In recent years, the choir has donated around £3000 annually to local and national charities. Their music is chosen to suit all tastes and choir membership includes a wide range of choral ability from enthusiastic beginner to talented soloists. The choir employs a professional musical Director.

Membership: Members are drawn from Stoneleigh and the surrounding area and the choir will always welcome new members. Membership fees are £30 per quarter.

Meetings: The choir meets each Wednesday at 7.30pm in the Stoneleigh Village Hall (except during August).

  Latest News:

Stoneleigh Male Voice Choir was recently honoured to be nominated for a Warwick District Council Civic Award and then very pleased to be presented with the Group Award for Culture, 2010, at the awards ceremony in the Trident Centre, Warwick, on 23rd March. The awards were made by Councillor Norman Pratt, Chairman of the Warwick District Council. The awards, in four categories of Community, Business, Environment and Culture, are sponsored annually by a number of local and national companies and organisations.

The citation for the Stoneleigh Choir made mention of their more than twenty years of fund raising for local and national good causes and their willingness to help others raise funds by providing entertainment on a wide variety of occasions. On their own account the choir has distributed more than £21,000 during the past seven years.

In Stoneleigh, the choir produces an annual musical entertainment in the village hall, a Summer Serenade garden party, a Christmas party for the senior citizens and children, and regular concerts in the parish church. The choir has sung for other organisations around the region: Ashow, Coventry, Warwick, Burton Dassett, Binley, Stretton and Corley to name a few. A highlight in 2004 was to represent Warwick in Saumur, France, as part of an international programme of events to mark the 100th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale. The choir played to a full house in the Saumur Theatre and also sang (in French) at the ceremony of the Vendange (the first picking of the grape harvest).
