Stoneleigh Ladies Choir

STONELEIGH LADIES CHOIR

Back in 2013 Stoneleigh resident, Val Baker, mooted the idea of a ladies’ choir to match the already established Stoneleigh Male Voice Choir.   Val arranged for letters to be posted through all the letterboxes in the village and, at the first meeting, twelve people turned up.  Word got out very quickly as twenty-four people arrived at the second meeting.  Since then the choir has grown to its full complement of forty-five very enthusiastic members from Stoneleigh, Ashow, Kenilworth and surrounding areas.

The choir performs a number of concerts each year under the leadership of their professional musical director, Karen Whyte, singing a variety of music to suit all tastes.

A specific charity is selected each year to benefit from one of the concerts but a range of charities from local, such as Zoe’s Place, to international, e.g. Medecins sans Frontieres, have also received donations from the choir.

Throughout the year, the choir enjoys social activities that have included theatre trips, quiz nights, and lunches.

Normally the choir meets every Thursday afternoon in the village hall (term time only) from 1.30 to 3pm. Undaunted by the pandemic we have continued to meet using zoom and are learning new songs for future concerts. Choir membership is £60 per half year.  Anyone interested in joining should contact the Secretary, Sharron McEldowney on 07760 101774. There are no auditions and the ability to read music is not necessary.
